Florida Rep. James Grant, Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith, Rep. Amber Mariano, and Rep. Chris Latvala are pushing legislation to create a UCF National Champions license plate.
The plate is authorized by HB 1359.
"As a UCF alumnus representing Florida House District 49, the "UCF District," I am incredible proud of our national champions," said Guillermo Smith. "A UCF license plate is the perfect way to commemorate our undefeated Knights for achieving this historic milestone."
"I am incredibly proud of UCF's 13-0 season, said Rep. Mariano. We can argue statistics and strength of schedules, but you can't argue a perfect, undefeated season. We are the true College Football National Champions, and our season made a big statement to the CFP that their current system is not working. I am so proud to be an Alumna from the best University in the world! Go Knights and Charge on!"
"UCF's football team had a historic season this year," said Rep. Latvala. "No others went undefeated, and we have a legitimate claim to the national championship. Thank you to Representative Grant for adding this amendment. Charge On!â€
"Nobody wanted Auburn to beat UCF more than me," said Rep. Grant, an Auburn University graduate. "However, UCF beat the team who beat the team also claiming to be national champions " Alabama " a team with a long history of making up national championships."
HB 1359's next legislative stop is Friday, January 19, 2018 in the House Transportation & Infrastructure Subcommittee.
